What we’re missing…

As golf lover who occasionally buys Milky Bars and Pineapple Lumps in the supermarket express lane – I take no interest in grubby tabloid media magazine trash. I’ve been asked a ridiculous amount of times how I feel about what Tiger Woods has been up to? But quite frankly, I don’t give a toss. I’m a mammoth Tiger fan and forever will be. History will remember Tiger Woods as the greatest ever golfer to play the game – And so will I. Here’s a little treat you may not have seen – as far as I know, it was never aired on New Zealand TV… It’s a gooden – Enjoy.
Oh nine – the almost year and the rise of Danny Lee

Asia's arrival
The return of Tiger Woods after an eight month injury lay-off was the overwhelming focus for the 09 season. And while he went major less, he didn’t disappoint. Anticipation for a comeback victory at the Masters was rife, but despite some final round fireworks in an electric paring with Phil Mickelson, their heroics fell just short. 48-year-old American Kenny Perry vying to become the oldest major champion ever had one arm in the green jacket, before a late round collapse saw Argentine Angel Cabrera snatch his first Masters title on the second extra hole to go along side his US Open Triumph in 2007. Even Batman's cape wasn't this impressive
Please allow me to introduce mrbojumbles latest contributer – Mike Wakefield. Based out of the sunny Hawkes Bay, Mike’s handicap is a little sharper to the rest of the team which should open up a new realm of insight that can only be a good thing for you punters out there! (for more on Mike check out his bio in the ‘fellas’ page)
In a repeat of last year’s made-for-TV event, albeit with some variation, the “Kiwi Challenge” is scheduled to hit New Zealand’s shores for the second year running on the 11th and 12th of November 2009. The event this year will be held over two days at Cape Kidnappers Golf Course in Hawke’s Bay. Continue Reading

Jeev at the top of his mark pondering his next delivery
After the raging success of the mrbojumbles world XV, by popular demand we bring you the leather on willow version. Thanks to Eddie Mackie and Master Mouse Patrol the selectors of this team for all their hard work. I know many an hour of articulate debating for players jostling for spots in the line up was made before this rip-snorter of a side was decided upon.
1. Geoff Ogilvy (AUS)
He’s a Strayan, technically sound, can take the new ball heat……and he’s a Victorian!!!
2. Phil Mickleson (USA)
Not only does he create a left/right opening combination, but his mastery of trick shots will match up well against spinners on the sub-continent. And he’s slightly fat, allowing him to fill the Mark Taylor role at the top. Continue Reading
Chewing the phat with Steve Williams
// October 31st, 2009 // 8 Comments » // Audio, News, Profile

The greatest shot of all time backed up with the greatest missed high-five of all time.
He has a front row seat every time the greatest player to ever play the game strikes a golf ball, but outside his extremely high profile job caddying for Tiger Woods, Steve Williams is still a Weetbix-kid at heart.
Steve took the time to chew the phat with mrbojumbles on Saturday and share his thoughts on the 09 season, his Summer schedule, Danny Lee, the debate of caddying classed as a sport, life beyond carrying the bag and the possibility of seeing Tiger compete on our shores again.
Big cheers to Steve – lets hope we can make this a regular thing… Enjoy!

Nothing like a turtle neck skivvy to build a fan base
Congrats to Mike Richardson of Royal Oak, Auckland for winning the first edition of the Johnnie Walker ‘Soap Box’ competition. Given the brief: “In under 500 words, lets hear your thoughts on 2009’s four major golf championships”, Mike’s spun a good yarn on his view of 2009’s big four. Enjoy the read people and enjoy your whiskey Mike.
There’s nothing quite like watching exciting Major championships. For me this year seemed more about who didn’t win as opposed to who won. I wouldn’t want to take anything away from the winners but imagine what it would have been like if things had turned out a little different out there. Continue Reading

Sifting through the world wide web more often that not entertains, sometimes appalls but always inspired. At mrbojumbles we always feel like sharing the goodies we stumble upon. Thanks to a regular mrbojumbles user pointing out this great article on The Onion. (We do not claim ownership of this but we ruddy well like it so share and share a like we say)
Four days after a disappointing final round at the Bridgestone Invitational, during which he gave up a three-shot lead to Tiger Woods, frazzled PGA Tour player Padraig Harrington has been unable to recover from the traumatic loss and is currently wandering aimlessly around a small Nebraska town, completely unaware of who he is or where he is supposed to be. Golf headlines and briefs from around the world. Mrbojumbles shiny new feature ‘Show us your briefs’.
> 17-year-old Japanese golf sensation Ryo Ishikawa and Aussie Hacker Adam Scott have been named as the wild cards on Greg Normans Presidents Cup team. The inclusion of “The Bashfull Prince” comes as no surprise after winning four times on the Japan Golf Tour in the last calendar year and has huge TV pulling power for the Asian continent. As for Scott… what the hell has he done to justify this? Frank Nobilo who is Normans vice captain for the ‘rest of the world team’ can’t have been able to pry the patriotism from the frim grip of the Shark. Honestly this decision makes no sense at all. If I was Danny tee I’d feel short changed. People who think Rory Sabitini should have got the call up are strange. Continue Reading

Nothing beats the good old wireless
Just for laughs I’m sharing an old radio ad I made back in the day. I hadn’t listened to it for a while but stumbled across it today and thought it may give a few of your punters some shits and giggles. If only ‘can-a-hole’ was a format contested for on the tour for at least one event at year. It could maybe be the platform big long-John Daly needs to revive his faltering career.

Stiff Shafts – volume 1
// September 1st, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Stiff Shafts

Thats a rather wide cart path
It’s a simple but beautiful game our game of golf. Man, ball, stick, hole; what’s not to be enjoyed from a walk in a carefully manicured lush park combined with a healthy physical and mental challenge? The game has fascinated oodles of people for a century or three and will continue to do so until the end of time. There is the old men’s club at the R&A keeping a watchful an eye on things, making sure the keen students and die-hards are respecting their ancient traditions by upholding the etiquette that the game deserves. But not everyone tows the line. What one man thinks is offensive another man looks upon as pure beauty. It’s common knowledge that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
May I treat you to mrbojumbles latest regular feature ‘Stiff Shafts’, celebrating the females out there giving golf a crack with complete disregard to the dress code of our ancient game. Continue Reading
