From the outside looking in, you could be forgiven for assuming the life of a pro golfer is one of luxury, jet-setting from one exotic to the next, endless cocktails and mammoth paychecks. The reality is, this is far from the truth. For hundreds of talented pros living out of a suitcase on the move every week, just trying to make the cut to put food on the table is equal to the pressure the big boys face in the majors. Cutting my lunch
// February 10th, 2010 // No Comments » // Opinion, Quirky
Ahead of last week’s Northern Trust Open in California, I was feeling rather confident about Steve Stricker’s form, so I threw out a challenge on Twitter predicting that he would win. I was so confident I was willing to put my lunchbox on the line if anyone was willing to do the same backing another horse.
Just to put this in context, my lunchbox usually consists of a wholesome sanga, a yoghurt or two, a muesli bar, some fresh fruit and perhaps some crackers or chocolate – So as you can see, I was really putting my crown jewels on the chopping block. I think my confidence surely scared off any potential challengers because no one stepped up to the plate. When Steve Stricker’s par putt on the 72nd fell for the two shot victory on Monday, no one was happier eating their lunch than me. Continue Reading

What we’re missing…

As golf lover who occasionally buys Milky Bars and Pineapple Lumps in the supermarket express lane – I take no interest in grubby tabloid media magazine trash. I’ve been asked a ridiculous amount of times how I feel about what Tiger Woods has been up to? But quite frankly, I don’t give a toss. I’m a mammoth Tiger fan and forever will be. History will remember Tiger Woods as the greatest ever golfer to play the game – And so will I. Here’s a little treat you may not have seen – as far as I know, it was never aired on New Zealand TV… It’s a gooden – Enjoy.
Oh nine – the almost year and the rise of Danny Lee

Asia's arrival
The return of Tiger Woods after an eight month injury lay-off was the overwhelming focus for the 09 season. And while he went major less, he didn’t disappoint. Anticipation for a comeback victory at the Masters was rife, but despite some final round fireworks in an electric paring with Phil Mickelson, their heroics fell just short. 48-year-old American Kenny Perry vying to become the oldest major champion ever had one arm in the green jacket, before a late round collapse saw Argentine Angel Cabrera snatch his first Masters title on the second extra hole to go along side his US Open Triumph in 2007. Even Batman's cape wasn't this impressive
Please allow me to introduce mrbojumbles latest contributer – Mike Wakefield. Based out of the sunny Hawkes Bay, Mike’s handicap is a little sharper to the rest of the team which should open up a new realm of insight that can only be a good thing for you punters out there! (for more on Mike check out his bio in the ‘fellas’ page)
In a repeat of last year’s made-for-TV event, albeit with some variation, the “Kiwi Challenge” is scheduled to hit New Zealand’s shores for the second year running on the 11th and 12th of November 2009. The event this year will be held over two days at Cape Kidnappers Golf Course in Hawke’s Bay. Continue Reading

Jeev at the top of his mark pondering his next delivery
After the raging success of the mrbojumbles world XV, by popular demand we bring you the leather on willow version. Thanks to Eddie Mackie and Master Mouse Patrol the selectors of this team for all their hard work. I know many an hour of articulate debating for players jostling for spots in the line up was made before this rip-snorter of a side was decided upon.
1. Geoff Ogilvy (AUS)
He’s a Strayan, technically sound, can take the new ball heat……and he’s a Victorian!!!
2. Phil Mickleson (USA)
Not only does he create a left/right opening combination, but his mastery of trick shots will match up well against spinners on the sub-continent. And he’s slightly fat, allowing him to fill the Mark Taylor role at the top. Continue Reading
Chewing the phat with Steve Williams
// October 31st, 2009 // 8 Comments » // Audio, News, Profile

The greatest shot of all time backed up with the greatest missed high-five of all time.
He has a front row seat every time the greatest player to ever play the game strikes a golf ball, but outside his extremely high profile job caddying for Tiger Woods, Steve Williams is still a Weetbix-kid at heart.
Steve took the time to chew the phat with mrbojumbles on Saturday and share his thoughts on the 09 season, his Summer schedule, Danny Lee, the debate of caddying classed as a sport, life beyond carrying the bag and the possibility of seeing Tiger compete on our shores again.
Big cheers to Steve – lets hope we can make this a regular thing… Enjoy!

Nothing like a turtle neck skivvy to build a fan base
Congrats to Mike Richardson of Royal Oak, Auckland for winning the first edition of the Johnnie Walker ‘Soap Box’ competition. Given the brief: “In under 500 words, lets hear your thoughts on 2009’s four major golf championships”, Mike’s spun a good yarn on his view of 2009’s big four. Enjoy the read people and enjoy your whiskey Mike.
There’s nothing quite like watching exciting Major championships. For me this year seemed more about who didn’t win as opposed to who won. I wouldn’t want to take anything away from the winners but imagine what it would have been like if things had turned out a little different out there. Continue Reading
