Kim Jong-il: Best golfer in the world

// June 26th, 2010 // No Comments » // News, Quirky

N. Korean media also reported that Jong-il bowled a perfect game of 300 on his first try.

South Korea’s Pyeonghwa (Peace) Motors Corporation plans to stage an inter-Korean golf game next month in the North’s capital city of Pyongyang, company officials say.

“We have agreed with North Korean authorities to hold a friendly golf competition between the two Koreas from July 30 to Aug. 5 at a golf course in Pyongyang,” said an official at Pyeonghwa Motors, which has started a business venture in North Korea.

Fortunately for all entrants, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il will not be playing. If the official government media is to be believed, Kim is easily the greatest golfer the world has ever seeen.

Pyongyang media say Kim enjoys golf, having shot multiple holes-in-one during his first try at the game. He reportedly aced five holes and finished 38 under par on the golf course. The “Dear Leader” routinely shoots three or four holes-in-one per round, the government-controlled media reported. (more…)

Rolling with an entourage

// June 21st, 2010 // No Comments » // News, Quirky

Hours after his glorious maiden major championship victory at the US Open,  Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell’s already rolling five deep with an entourage. His next stop, the Late Show with David Letterman, possibly stopping at the Playboy Mansion for a game of bath robe ping pong with Heff. Hey, he’s the US Open champion – That’s how he rolls bro!

Thanks to Sonny Bill Williamson from Master Mouse Patrol for giving us the heads up on this doozie –  ”Even though I hate to publicly admit I use twitter, it allowed me see this nice photo Jeremy Piven shared today. I thought it was cool that he described this as ‘a photo with a true champion’.”

Pure Golf 2010 – Those lucky bastards

// June 16th, 2010 // No Comments » // Audio, News, Profile

Golf, every day, for a whole year – Jealous? Yeah you are, I certainly am. This very goal is what two Kiwis – Jamie Patton and Michael Goldstein – are on the mission to achieve. Before they could turn their goal into a reality they had to give their jobs as lawyers the bird, then they were all set to set to tick off 365 golf courses in New Zealand and abroad. I crossed paths with them way back in January while I was down in Queenstown for the New Zealand Open, and even back then I thought the goal was a bit far fetched. 167 days on, the boys are on the east coast of the United States, they’re in remarkably good spirits, full of good stories, sick of two-minute-noodles, semi famous, broke, and are still friends. Follow the link below to listen to a little yarn we had today while they were at Pinehurst – enjoy. (more…)

Even Batman's cape wasn't this impressive

Please allow me to introduce mrbojumbles latest contributer – Mike Wakefield. Based out of the sunny Hawkes Bay, Mike’s handicap is a little sharper to the rest of the team which should open up a new realm of insight that can only be a good thing for you punters out there! (for more on Mike check out his bio in the ‘fellas’ page)

In a repeat of last year’s made-for-TV event, albeit with some variation, the “Kiwi Challenge” is scheduled to hit New Zealand’s shores for the second year running on the 11th and 12th of November 2009. Chewing the phat with Steve Williams

The greatest shot of all time backed up with the greatest missed high-five of all time

The greatest shot of all time backed up with the greatest missed high-five of all time.

He has a front row seat every time the greatest player to ever play the game strikes a golf ball, but outside his extremely high profile job caddying for Tiger Woods, Steve Williams is still a Weetbix-kid at heart.

Steve took the time to chew the phat with mrbojumbles on Saturday and share his thoughts on the 09 season, his Summer schedule, Danny Lee, the debate of caddying classed as a sport, life beyond carrying the bag and the possibility of seeing Tiger compete on our shores again.

Big cheers to Steve – lets hope we can make this a regular thing… Enjoy!

Show us your briefs

Stenson briefs 2Golf headlines and briefs from around the world. Mrbojumbles shiny new feature ‘Show us your briefs’.

> 17-year-old Japanese golf sensation Ryo Ishikawa and Aussie Hacker Adam Scott have been named as the wild cards on Greg Normans Presidents Cup team. The inclusion of “The Bashfull Prince” comes as no surprise after winning four times on the Japan Golf Tour in the last calendar year and has huge TV pulling power for the Asian continent. As for Scott… what the hell has he done to justify this? Frank Nobilo who is Normans vice captain for the ‘rest of the world team’ can’t have been able to pry the patriotism from the frim grip of the Shark. Honestly this decision makes no sense at all. If I was Danny tee I’d feel short changed. People who think Rory Sabitini should have got the call up are strange. (more…)
