Pure Golf 2010 – Those lucky bastards

// June 16th, 2010 // No Comments » // Audio, News, Profile

Golf, every day, for a whole year – Jealous? Yeah you are, I certainly am. This very goal is what two Kiwis – Jamie Patton and Michael Goldstein – are on the mission to achieve. Before they could turn their goal into a reality they had to give their jobs as lawyers the bird, then they were all set to set to tick off 365 golf courses in New Zealand and abroad. I crossed paths with them way back in January while I was down in Queenstown for the New Zealand Open, and even back then I thought the goal was a bit far fetched. 167 days on, the boys are on the east coast of the United States, they’re in remarkably good spirits, full of good stories, sick of two-minute-noodles, semi famous, broke, and are still friends. Follow the link below to listen to a little yarn we had today while they were at Pinehurst – enjoy. (more…)

Two, plus, three, plus two, plus two equals...

Earlier today, mrbojumbles caught up with New Zealand golf representative Ryan Fox (son of dead-eye-dick Grant), to pick his Monday round of 60 to bits, yes, SIXTY!

Chewing the phat with Steve Williams

The greatest shot of all time backed up with the greatest missed high-five of all time

The greatest shot of all time backed up with the greatest missed high-five of all time.

He has a front row seat every time the greatest player to ever play the game strikes a golf ball, but outside his extremely high profile job caddying for Tiger Woods, Steve Williams is still a Weetbix-kid at heart.

Steve took the time to chew the phat with mrbojumbles on Saturday and share his thoughts on the 09 season, his Summer schedule, Danny Lee, the debate of caddying classed as a sport, life beyond carrying the bag and the possibility of seeing Tiger compete on our shores again.

Big cheers to Steve – lets hope we can make this a regular thing… Enjoy!

Long time listener, first time caller

"First time caller, long time listener"

Nothing beats the good old wireless

Just for laughs I’m sharing an old radio ad I made back in the day. I hadn’t listened to it for a while but stumbled across it today and thought it may give a few of your punters some shits and giggles. If only ‘can-a-hole’ was a format contested for on the tour for at least one event at year. It could maybe be the platform big long-John Daly needs to revive his faltering career.

Back to school for Danny

School stinks in Rotovagas

School stinks in Roto-Vegas

Its been a whirlwind-roller coaster of a year for Kiwi golf prodigy Danny Lee. The tour rookie tasted victory in a professional tournament in amazing fashion as an amateur back in February, he played with hall of famer Gary Player at the Masters and set a record for most putts on a green (six), he turned pro, signed for enough cash that if burnt would cause global warming on Neptune, then went on his crusade to secure full PGA Tour playing rights for next season with only 12 events to do so through sponsors exemptions. Lets not forget that somewhere amongst this hectic schedule the happy-go-lucky Roto-Vegan managed to turn 19 with all this going on.

Unfortunately for Danny he has been unable to achieve this goal but he has not disappointed. His achievement at the European Tours Johnnie Walker Classic made him the youngest champion on the Tour EVER, even Tiger was riper than this when he cracked his first pro event and he was pro.  (more…)

Stewart-CinkHas an Open Champion ever had less praise bestowed upon them for winning golfs greatest piece of silverware? Stewart Cink is surely the least talked about player in history post winning their first major. And rightly so. The 2009 Open Championship will forever be remembered as the Tom Watson Open as he reeled back the years to come within eight feet of history. But is was the big bald American who does cheesy tweets on Twitter who lifted the Claret Jug late on that Sunday, and probably lost any fans he did have in the process. (more…)

For those of you who don’t know the enigma that is Karl Pilkington, you will enjoy this little treat.

After teaming up with his best friends Ricky Gervais (star and producer of the hit series ‘The Office’) and Steve Merchant (tall lanky random comedian who co-wrote The Office with Ricky) to make to make a podcast series called ‘The Ricky Gervias Show’, Karl was an overnight internet phenomenon. His weird mind and quirky humor captured he world’s attention like no other. His brilliant stupidity makes him the constant butt of Ricky and Steve’s jokes that more often than not refer to the shape of his head. Ricky firmly believes that Karl has the world’s roundest head and completely obsessed with it. (more…)
