Pure Golf 2010 – Those lucky bastards

// June 16th, 2010 // No Comments » // Audio, News, Profile

Golf, every day, for a whole year – Jealous? Yeah you are, I certainly am. This very goal is what two Kiwis – Jamie Patton and Michael Goldstein – are on the mission to achieve. Before they could turn their goal into a reality they had to give their jobs as lawyers the bird, then they were all set to set to tick off 365 golf courses in New Zealand and abroad. I crossed paths with them way back in January while I was down in Queenstown for the New Zealand Open, and even back then I thought the goal was a bit far fetched. 167 days on, the boys are on the east coast of the United States, they’re in remarkably good spirits, full of good stories, sick of two-minute-noodles, semi famous, broke, and are still friends. Follow the link below to listen to a little yarn we had today while they were at Pinehurst – enjoy. [Heaps more bro...]

Robert Garrigus does a Jean Van de Velde

// June 15th, 2010 // No Comments » // Opinion, Quirky

With all due respect to the St Jude Classic, it’s not a high profile glitter event on the PGA Tour and the depth of the field reflected this, but I sure got my kicks out of the final holes of this one big time. Standing on the 72nd tee – in only his seventh event on the PGA Tour due to an indifferent career – American Robert Garrigus needed only a double bogey six to take claim the biggest victory of his life… Sound familiar?

Yes, Garrigous got a touch of the Jean Van de Veldes, and quite frankly, it was hilarious. It began with a huge high rope hook into the lake, followed by some other crappy decisions and hacks, and eventually he got the ruddy ball in the hole for a triple bogey seven. [Heaps more bro...]

If you hadn’t noticed already, there’s something brewing in the world of golf. The key ingredient: Youth. The Ringer 5: Major Chokers

// May 12th, 2010 // No Comments » // Ringer 5

The dreaded C-word. No matter how good you think you are, you’re not immune. While watching the very best do it on the greatest stages makes for entertaining TV, it’s not easy to watch. This weeks Ringer 5 humiliates the players once again who choked on the major stage. [Heaps more bro...]

Todays chores: Sweep the porch - tick

The passion runs deep during final rounds for the mrbojumbles family. An email thread during the final holes of this morning’s Players Championship…

Willis: Man, I don’t really have a problem with Tim Clarke, but I find it impossible to enjoy a victory that involves a broomstick putter.

It’s just offensive. Lee and Stu are both in the fairway at 16 so it’s not all over yet, but the little Yarpie is looking rock solid with a two shot lead at 18. [Heaps more bro...]

“Better than most” – The 17th at TPC Sawgrass

// May 9th, 2010 // No Comments » // Video

Yesterday I was surprised to hear there had only been six hole in ones at the 17th in The Players championship history, the last coming via a Terry-Kiserin-in-Weekend-at-Bernies-esque  Miguel Angel Jimenez in ’02. Once again, the Silver Fox gives us another reason to hail his greatness, Azinger proves he could stop a golf ball on a dime with a wedge, and Tiger’s ‘better than most’ effort is a sure bet on any highlights reel – 4 minutes, 15 seconds worth viewing.
