Danny’s Back with the Belly

// December 3rd, 2011 // No Comments » // News

Chur to IMG’s Nick Dye for chucking us some Danny grabs. Young Kiwi Pro – and former US Amateur Champ – Danny Lee, has stumbled upon some form. Buoyed by the knowledge his 2012 PGA Tour Card is 2012 sewn up, the Rotovegan finds himself two off the lead held by US Open Champ Rory McIlroy and yardage-eater Alvaro Quiros. Master Dye pinned Danny down for a post round yarn…

Apologies and, oh… can you vote for us?!

// November 26th, 2011 // No Comments » // News, Quirky

Firstly, apologies for the lack of content. It’s fair to say that we’ve been saturated with rugby in lil ol’ New Zealand, but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t been keeping up with the golf action, we plan to get the ball rolling with some regular content again so hold tight you big golf tragics Our social media channels have continued to truck along, some odd fucker has even nominated us the Microblogs section (for our Twitter profile) in a comp called ‘The Bloggers’ on Concrete Playground. [If you can be arsed, vote for us here]

Until next time (promise it won’t be a few months), quiet please.

Guest Blogger: Ben Campbell – living the dream!

// July 13th, 2011 // No Comments » // News, Profile

He’s perhaps our most promising talent since Cambo, and he’s got the ‘cool customer’ demeanor that took Sir Bob to the very top. He’s on tour and he’s sharing his tales with mrbojumbles. Get used to his name; take the stage…Ben Campbell. (Story published a few days late sorry).

I’m currently in Savannah Georgia at the moment playing in the Players Amateur. It has been really hot here so slowly getting use to that. I have shot rounds of 76, 66, 73 so need a good round tomorrow to move me into the top 10. Been struggling with the short game a little but working really hard on it with my coach so it will come. I have been struck down with an ingrown toenail but it has been attended to and im on the mend. (more…)

Can Rory McIlroy win The Masters…Yeah boy or nah bowls?

Sports Illustrated 2009 Masters Preview

21-year-old Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is 18 holes away from glory at the US Masters in Augusta, Georgia where he holds a four-shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round. He’s sat in the box seat and knee deep in Masters’ history with one arm in a Green Jacket, but can the kid pull it off?

Five reasons Rory will don a Green Jacket tomorrow:

- Because it is Europe’s time. A McIlroy triumph tomorrow would mean all four Major Championships would be in the hands of European Tour players. Take that Yanks!

- Big dog’s gotta eat and it’s hungry for some yards. Rory hits the ball a country mile and as straight as Larry Mize. Fortune favors the brave at Augusta and nothing gives you more confidence than big, straight drives one after the other. (more…)

Golf’s ‘Eric the Eel’

// November 19th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // News

This was the first relevant image on a google image search for Ali Ahmad Fazel

Just like the Sydney Olympics where Equatorial Guinea’s Eric Moussambani Malonga nearly drowned during a 100m freestyle heat, golf’s also been reduced to a farce. Well…golf’s actually got it’s very own ‘Eric the Eel’ now. Introducing Ali Ahmad Fazel – a 19-year-old from Kabul, Afghanistan, playing in the Asian Games in Southern China. Fazel has stolen the headlines with a scorching opening-round of 130 in the men’s golf event at the Dragon Lake Golf Club – that’s 58 over par! Lets be honest, it’s fair to say that golf’s not made for the Afghany Deserts, but country of origin aside, that’s a ridiculous score in every way possible. Even my dear mother who’s just taken up the game during the last six weeks is shooting better scores than that. Honest. (more…)

I am Mark Brown

// November 19th, 2010 // No Comments » // News

Remember the Mark Brown AMP golf ad from the late ’90s? You know, the one where he’s basically doing an ‘I am Mark Brown’ version of the ‘I am Tiger Woods’ Nike ad? Well, after about 15 years on and off the world’s main tours, it seems as though the Wellington Pro may finally be living up to AMP’s prediction. Brown’s shot a 8-under 62 – his lowest round on the European Tour – to lead the UBS Hong Kong Open by one over Rory McIlroy after the first round. Let’s not get too carried away with ourselves though, Brown’s form has been mediocre at best of late and he does have young Rory and G-Mac breathing down his neck. But yes, I’m excited. Lets see if the two-time European Tour winner can bring home the bacon.

Please cast aside all envy and jealously you harbour towards mrbojumbles’ good friends, Jamie and Michael from Pure Golf 2010, about their epic journey of golf every day for a year. While they’re doing what every single one of us would rather be doing than trying to look busy at reading this post at work, they’re good buggers playing for a good cause. Finally they’re headed home to God’s Own and would like to share their plans for the home straight with you. They have a bunch of golf days planned so read on to find out how you can get amongst it… (more…)

Too Cool For School

// November 1st, 2010 // No Comments » // News

I thought this tune was appropriate considering that Alice Cooer is a golf-nut, actually, that’s a good idea for an article in the future – I should try track him down for a golf interview… hmmm, I digress. Push play and enjoy…

It’s a common misconception that all pro golfers live a life of luxury, jet-setting from one gorgeous corner of the world to another. Yes, this may be true for the cream of the crop, but for the rest – which means thousands of hugely talented pros – life on tour (if they belong to one) is a hard slog living out of a suitcase with the constant challenge to stay on top of their finances. A tour card for any of the major tours is more important to a pro golfer than their credit card. It gives them security, confidence to play their natural game for the entire year, a sense of belonging, regular competition, experience, but mostly – a job. (more…)
