He’s perhaps our most promising talent since Cambo, and he’s got the ‘cool customer’ demeanor that took Sir Bob to the very top. He’s on tour and he’s sharing his tales with mrbojumbles. Get used to his name; take the stage…Ben Campbell. (Story published a few days late sorry).

I’m currently in Savannah Georgia at the moment playing in the Players Amateur. It has been really hot here so slowly getting use to that. I have shot rounds of 76, 66, 73 so need a good round tomorrow to move me into the top 10. Been struggling with the short game a little but working really hard on it with my coach so it will come. I have been struck down with an ingrown toenail but it has been attended to and im on the mend.

I’m in America until the 28th of August and have four more events to play in before I head home. Those events are the Southern Amateur, Porter Cup, Western Amateur and US Amateur.

I have been lucky enough to be invited to the Australian Golf Camp in the Woodlands, Texas in two weeks time. This is where I was practicing last week.. They have a great setup there and Golf Australia is flying people over to help-teach us for the week. One of which is my coach Marty Joyce. Also Ryan Lumsden who works with 3D biomechanics and Physio Ramsy Mcmaster so it will be great to catch up with them and do some work.

Europe was of a bit of a disappointment, on the flight over I got a nasty Stomach bug that had me not eating for five days I tried playing the Scottish Amateur but wasn’t feeling the best. I missed cut there. I went to the amazing town of St Andrews the next week where I played in the St Andrews links trophy. It was a disappointing week I finished 6th but my ball striking was great that week and didn’t take full opportunity on the greens. I was travelling with a good friend Chris Wood from Australia and he had arranged accommodation for the two of us in Liverpool where we were playing in the British Amateur. We got treated great there and didn’t want to leave. I played well in the Stroke playing coming 4th but had a disappointing loss in the 2nd round. I had a niggling ingrown toenail and I travelled to Summer Set and to play in the Brabzon Trophy. I tried playing the 1st round but had to pull out due to the toe. I went to see a Chiropodist and she informed me that I would have to get it cut out when I got to America. I was put on Antibiotics as I had British Open final qualifying but was unable to finish that as the toe did not hold up how I was hoping. Overall it was a bit of a disappointment but I learned a lot from the experiences.

The body seems to be on the mend so im looking forward to being back to full health as the game is starting to feel really good. I had a good round two days ago shooting 66. That gave me a lot of confidence and hopefully I can take that form into next week.

Hope all is well and I will keep you informed

Cheers,

Ben
