Kicks for free

American PGA Tour member Ryan Moore is kicking it low key inside the ropes.
His golf bag has no name brands, his casual caps have no Ping or Oakley slapped all over them. His sticks are not the latest release cutting-edge brand; he has an assortment of Titleist wedges and a Titleist putter, Callaway irons, Ping three-woods and an Adams hybrid and driver.
One of the most heralded amateur golfers of all time, Moore is now going back to basics to rekindle the form from those glory years before he played for cash. Moore has decided to forgo the millions in sponsorships to be able to be himself. Obviously the problem with this is that Moore isn’t making any money from all of the sponsors that would be excited to have a young, exciting golfer on their staff. So what’s the benefit? It’s that Moore gets to pick his own clubs, his own wardrobe and most importantly, he gets to be comfortable in just being himself through it all.
“To be honest, I kind of did a lot of thinking in this off-season and I wanted to go back to playing golf because I loved playing golf again. It had nothing to do with not even wanting sponsorships or if there wasn’t availability there. I just used to love playing golf, I used to love going out to the course everyday and some of that stuff can kind of get in the way. This year, I wanted my focus to be golf, and golf only and just not even worry about that other stuff.”
Moore has struggled to break through to the winner’s circle of the PGA Tour. Maybe this free-willed approach could help him do that, even if he has to catch some banter from his fellow tour players.
“I get a little bit of grief, definitely, but that ties back in to me wanting to be me and not having to wear this or that, but
wear stuff I actually enjoy. I go out and buy my golf clothes. I bought these golf shoes. I paid for them. I figure that I’ve got a lot from the golf industry, so it doesn’t hurt to give back, I pick a club because I want to use it, not because I have to make it work. To me, there is a lot of comfort and a lot of confidence in that. Everything you see me wearing, I paid for.”
This is refreshing from the outside looking in, Moore looks like an everyday chap just playing some golf with some loose kicks to boot. Mores philosophy sits well with me: “Good golf takes cares of itself.
Keen on Moores kicks?…
Puma C-Hoppers, which cost about (US) $100 (They are not Vans as some suggest which have no cleats). Pictured on the left are two pairs of Puma C-Hoppers.
Puma say: “The versatile sneakers feature Champ Scorpion Stinger spikes and come with street caps for wearing them anywhere” kept dry by ” full grain weather resistant upper and all-over seam sealing”.
