The Far North's Kauri Cliffs
New Zealand played host to four PGA Tour stars last week for the made for TV ‘Kiwi Challenge’.
Adam Scott, Brant Snedeker, Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan went head to head over two rounds stroke play on two of New Zealand’s finest tracks, Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers. Our proud golfing nation that boasts the second most golf courses per-capita in the world was well overdue for an event of this calibre to give us the chance to showcase our golfing paradise. The weather played its part bathing our visitors in glorious sunshine and the players in return delivered some champagne golf.

Hawkes Bay's finest - Cape Kidnappers
This years Masters darling Snedeker declared his love for the Kauri Cliffs Golf Course prior to teeing off, then went out and posted course record 66 to take a 4 shot lead over Kim on the first day. Mahan caught fire on day two at Cape Kidnappers (The Daily Telegraph’s world’s top golf course in 2008). Mahan had four birdies and an eagle between the 12th and 16th holes to post his closing-round 65 and tie Kim, who shot 66 for a two-round total of 136, one ahead of Snedeker on 135 and Scott brought up the rear on 148. Hunter Mahan beat American Ryder Cup teammate Anthony Kim on the second playoff hole to win a check for $1.5 million when Kim missed his par putt from 8 feet. The four man tournament broadcast New Zealand as a top golfing destination to the world but Steve Williams in the commentary box?… he should probably stick to carrying Tiger’s sticks.
